Give what you can. Know that it matters. Be part of the shield.
An insider is any individual who currently has—or previously had—authorized access to an organization’s resources. These resources may include:
• Personnel
• Facilities
• Information and data
• Equipment
• Networks and systems
An insider threat arises when that access or knowledge is used—intentionally or unintentionally—to harm the organization. This harm can compromise the integrity, confidentiality, or availability of the organization’s assets, including its people, data, and infrastructure.
• Trusted individuals such as employees, members, or anyone granted access to sensitive information (e.g., financial data, business strategy, or classified government materials)
• Badge holders or those with physical access credentials (e.g., contractors, vendors, custodians, repair personnel)
• Network users with issued computers or digital access to internal systems
• Product developers or insiders with intimate knowledge of proprietary services or technologies
Given the sensitive nature of school security and the trust placed in veteran personnel, vigilance against insider threats is essential. The Halo Shield Foundation can reinforce safety by:
• Conducting thorough vetting and background checks
• Implementing access control protocols
• Promoting a culture of transparency and accountability
• Providing ongoing training on insider threat recognition and reporting
Would you like help turning this into a one-pager for onboarding or a slide for institutional presentations? I can also help draft a policy statement or checklist for internal use.
